How many of us are aware of the mighty Mithali Raj or know of the brand of cricket, Smriti Mandhana plays? That’s the stigma around Women’s Cricket that has led even players of such stature to miss out on the Limelight. Women’s Cricket has been around for over two dozen decades and over the years, it has evolved by and large. Gone are the days when girls were restricted from doing something, now, the likes of Harmanpreet Kaur and Jhulan Goswami have become household names in the Indian Cricket Fraternity.

Year by year, Women’s Cricket is scaling new heights and the latest being it’s inclusion in the upcoming 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games (CG). The History of the Games has not seen the participation of Women’s Cricket and this debut would go down the lanes as one of the most remarkable feats in Women’s Cricket. Thanks to the International Cricket Council (ICC) and England Cricket Board (ECB), who made a joint bid for the inclusion. The bid was successful after 71 CG Associations voted in the favour.

The tournament will be played in the Twenty20 format, with eight teams competing in two groups. All the matches will be played in the Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham. India will take on Australia in the opening match on July 29th, 2022, while the Finals will be played on August 7. Avid Indian fans would be hoping for their team to secure the berth in the Finals and it would be a cherry on the cake, if they could witness an India vs Pakistan!
